Khoi San Bushman

KALAHARI, CLOSE TO ASKHAM, SOUTH AFRICA: Members of the ǂKhomani San community are photographed in the Kalahari Desert near the town of Askham. The portraits were produced in collaboration with the Khomani San Community Trust, an organisation working to support the cultural heritage and land rights of the San people in the region.

The San are widely recognised as one of the oldest continuous cultures in southern Africa, with a deep historical connection to the landscapes of the Kalahari. Today, many communities continue to navigate the challenges of preserving cultural identity while adapting to changing economic and social conditions.

Photographed as environmental portraits within the surrounding desert landscape, the images aims to document individuals within the environment that has historically shaped their culture and way of life.

Images from the collection were later published in Condé Nast Traveller Germany.
